The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, today announced that international graduates with a recently expired or expiring post-graduation work permit (PGWP) will qualify for an additional or extended work permit to stay longer and gain additional work experience for up to 18 months. The PGWP Program allows international graduates to obtain an open work permit to gain valuable Canadian work experience.

As per the IRCC, the number of overseas students holding a Canadian Study Permit is about 6,21,565 this year. After the pandemic, there has been a significant rise in student applications for Canada, with around 2,30,000 applications from India alone. This rise in visa applications has also led to continuous application refusals.

Canada has one of the most advanced immigration systems in the world in Express Entry. Launched in January 2015, it is designed by Canadian authorities to better align the skills of immigrants with the needs of the labour market.
